Discover the Difference

I am Welcome Here, You are Welcome Here, We are Welcome Here!

We begin each service with these words…and we mean them.
You are welcome exactly as you are. No Exceptions.

What's different about University Christian Church?

1) We are a progressive congregation that takes the Bible seriously, but not always literally. Doubters are welcome here.

2) We are an Open and Affirming Congregation that welcomes people of all sexual orientations and gender identities into the full life and leadership of the Church. We are a proud member of the GLAD Alliance and were the first Open and Affirming Congregation in Southern California.

3) We are a multiracial/multicultural congregation that openly welcomes people of all races and ethnicities to help weave the diverse tapestry of our community of faith. We are always striving to be a pro-reconciling/anti-racist congregation.

4) We are an environmentally conscious congregation that cares for God’s creation and strives to be good stewards of it. We are a Green Chalice Congregation.

5) We are a peace and justice congregation. We believe that God cares deeply for those who are oppressed and marginalized and make our mission to those in need the center of our ministry. Take a look at our outreach ministries.

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

We are proud members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), which is a denomination that encourages individual thought and Biblical interpretation; a popular saying in the denomination is “No Creed but Christ.”  The identity statement of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) states: “We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.”
